Following Classmates Art Tutorials
Hello everyone!
Today, I’ll be following a couple of my classmates’ art tutorials! Our Visual Foundations class was recently assigned to create step-by-step tutorials for others to follow along with. My previous post featured the one I created myself.
For today's blog, I selected two of my classmates’ tutorials to recreate. I’ve included links to their websites below if you’d like to try these projects out yourself!
Tutorial 1: Digital Blending with IbisPaintX

The first tutorial I followed focused on blending techniques in digital art using IbisPaintX. I’m already quite familiar with this app, so using it was definitely a lot easier. For my version, I experimented with a donut shape to practice smooth color transitions and focus on lighting. Following her instructions, I used multiple layers and the blur tool to achieve the effect. I also used the filters to help blend the colors. My final rendition is shown on the right.
Tutorial 2: Watercolor Effect Using Markers

The second tutorial demonstrated how to create an easy watercolor-style drawing using only markers and water (no actual watercolors required!). I really enjoyed this project because it reminded me how simple materials can still produce meaningful and expressive art. I chose to draw a small building and added my own touch by outlining it with a fine-line Sharpie for extra detail. It was such a fun and relaxing process, and I highly recommend giving it a try!
Overall, following my classmates’ tutorials was such a fun and inspiring experience! It was great to see how each of us approaches art differently, and I learned a lot of new techniques along the way. I’m really proud of how my pieces turned out and excited to keep experimenting with these styles in future projects.
